April 2011

The modern day fairy tale is having its happy ending today. So while they are tying the knot in London and our dear Kate is becoming the princess -a real one, not a metaphorical one, and yes I want to cry from jealousy-, I wanted to take a look at what you could wear to a wedding. It doesn't matter whether you are invited or not to the royal wedding, if you are dressed right for the occasion you can always crush into the after party!

If you are not nominated for Oscars and your prom night is already gone, there are few opportunities to wear a long gown and the weddings are by far the best ones. So use this chance and feel like a real princess, in this case like Kate, in a long dress.

However if you opt for a short dress that would help you to survive the long night, why not spice things up a little and go with a romantic yet eye-catching Valentino dress with the flowers?

And if it is still the royal wedding we are talking about, then a headpiece with Swarovski crystals is a must, but I also loved the Valentino necklace and the Lanvin earrings, too. Since the weather is not that predictable nowadays, a beaded or structured jacket would complete your outfit perfectly when it gets chilly. Especially if you do not have a lovely prince next to you to offer you his tuxedo jacket…

Gossip Girl star famous for her Californian looks and beautiful golden locks, surprised everyone with her new strawberry blond curls at the TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People gala in New York. Her new hairstyle was matching perfectly her red carpet look and her stunning Zuhair Murad blue gown. The reason behind the change is yet to be revealed but rumours say it is for her new role in 'Savages'.

After the names like Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore and Mandy Moore, she is the last one to join the crowd of stars who abandoned blond hair in favour of the auburn hue. Although change is good from time to time and I admit the colour looked amazing with the gown on the red carpet, I am using my vote for the sun-drenched golden locks.

When I was accepted to Central Saint Martins and went to buy my school books, the sales assistant in the bookshop told me: "Oh, Saint Martins, you'll be very rich and famous then!" That time it didn't mean anything to me, but after seeing all those amazing alumni, I see that maybe he had a point about the school.

Yet there is a new talent from Saint Martins that I couldn't pass by without noticing: Mary Katrantzou. Athens-born designer is using illusory digital print in a very intelligent way, and her inspired by the art of trompe l'oeil designs make the wearer look like a wall of the Met. The latest collection? You will get carried away so much that you will have the will to decorate your house in the same way as your dress!

She launched her own label in 2008 and her vivid, hyper-real prints promise a successful future for the Greek designer. Keep an eye on her designs, because it is a matter of time to see them on all the experts in the field.

My favourite designer Miuccia Prada is on the spot once again and this time its for Prada's little sister Miu Miu's online store. The new Miu Miu E-Store will be launched on April 6th and will offer a full range of Ready-to-wear, Bags, Footwear, Accessories and Eyewear. And the best part of the site is that it includes a 'Fashion Show Selection' where the exclusive key looks from the Paris show will be displayed to shop the looks.

And if you are someone, who thinks shopping as an experience and not just buying what you need, then you would be happy to hear that what you order from Miu Miu's online boutique will arrive in their famous pink boxes and a little pink ribbon on it just like the ones in the real shops.

The site will launch simultaneously in seventeen European countries, the US and Japan and I will be the first one in the online queue to enter the store.
